America Movil aims to streaming services in Latin America

Rent movies and TV shows streaming is the large vein of untapped business in Latin America. From [the raid Netflix] increasingly interested actors in the field, are independent as NuFlick or international, Vudu . If last week spoke about the intention of the film giant Cinepolis in entering this market , is now America Movil-owned by billionaire Carlos Slim, who is also pointing to the fight .

The service is called Claro and has already been launched in beta for Colombia and Argentina, if they try to access from another location, they will receive regional block. In Colombia, the subscription is 14.900 pesos (about eight dollars or 6.5 euros). The business model is combined: first, the amount of the subscription provides access to a catalog-like Netflix, but in the case of premieres and recent tapes, using a rental system, similar to Vudu or iTunes Store.

This hybrid model seems the ideal solution. The cost is very cheap (similar to handled in your monthly fee), with the possibility that users have taken out income on demand, which in some countries has not been as profitable by different variables, such as lack of custom or low broadband penetration.

already has experience in the business of selling content on the web. In early 2012, the company launched Ideas Musik , which aimed to stand up to the iTunes Store in terms of musical trade. This online store also uses the hybrid business model, allowing for streaming music through a monthly income of 75 pesos (4.5 euros or 5.7 dollars), and prepaid downloading songs (5 songs for 40 pesos – three dollars or 20 pesos -6.8 songs for 90 dollars).

So if we consider the infrastructure of America Movil, which has the financial backing and experience Musik ideas, the arrival of course is to be closely monitored. But above all, it is interesting that gains strength the heading of streaming on demand, an area that I am sure in a few months will receive a significant boost through the supply and competition.
