Develop a thermoelectric tube capable of generating clean energy using hot water
Panasonic Researchers have developed the first thermoelectric tube is able to produce clean energy through the transport of hot water. These tubes are based on a new structure that can produce electricity more efficiently solely based on the temperature difference.
The progress represented by this research is that if the structure is capable of generating electricity, conventional pipes could be replaced by those with normal use could generate electricity. For now have built the model shown in the image, which is comprised of four of these small tubes and measuring 10cm in length each. Passes around the hot water and the whole is cooled using cold water. The temperature difference creates electricity, which in the model developed is 10W, enough to power a small fan.
The breakthrough brought the thermoelectric tube is remarkable. Until now the energy generated by tended to produce many thermoelectric heat loss since the thermoelectric elements were outside the tubes. Systems also had reliability problems. With this new design is achieved tubular heat further optimize existing. Now it takes longer and therefore more electricity is generated, up to three or four times more than conventional systems. It is also a 100% clean energy.
The structure consists of a thermoelectric material that has very low thermal conductivity and secondly, metal components with very high thermal conductivity. These metallic materials are placed at such an angle that makes heat flow perpendicular to electrical flow. This causes heat to go from the inside of the tube while electricity flows through it. This will reduce energy loss.
The objective of this new design is to make the product can be easily installed and can replace existing pipes. This would get electricity from waste heat produced by industries or could use the hot springs.
