In the last fair MWC 2012 in Barcelona, the Mozilla people were surprised to introduce a new mobile operating system they were developing called Boot2Gecko, with whom would bet the smartphone market that is becoming more and more important. Boot2Gecko renamed Firefox OS, and that’s how it looks .

Their leaders know that it is quite difficult to impact in this market dominated by iPhone, Android and betting that promise both as Windows Phone, which is why Mozilla and Telefonica focus this platform in emerging markets, betting terminals and economic low end, to go well and gaining popularity with the aim of expanding gradually go down to the U.S., Europe and Asia. First, the terminals Firefox OS will go on sale in Brazil, and this will be before the end of the year.

Firefox OS is quite simple, but it is no longer having a very nice interface and most importantly, very fluid. And is that its leaders clarified their goals with this OS to mention more than a year ago:

“We want to create a flexible operating system, which is very easy to use and that any developer can modify it to your liking. This will be born several distributions, and that idea excites us. “

As they explain, Firefox OS is divided into three layers: the first call Gonk which is an abstraction layer for the hardware, the second is a port of Gecko to Gonk and the third is named Gaia, the latter being the interface the user sees and interacts with.

All Firefox OS is based on HTML5, Javascript and CSS, ie everything is web-based, thus have the agility, speed and fluidity they wanted. Definitely a big bet that the first Latin American country will for that, but hopefully later prove faster than the rest of the world.
