S1: giant comet heading for Earth

S1: giant comet heading for Earth

Two Russian astronomers have come up with what could be the brightest to pass by the Earth . A huge ball of ice and rock that could become the brightest comet in history.

And is that astronomers and Vitali Russian Artyom Novichonok Nevski, both of the International Scientific Optical Network in Russia have been the discoverers of this giant. Later confirmed by other observatories and by the International Astronomical Union itself.

According to the scientists:

The comet is now going through Saturn, gaining speed and becoming brighter every day. It can be the brightest or one of the brightest ever. If falls short of expectations, it will be great.

Researchers believe that given the comet’s orbit, its origin can be the Oort Cloud, the spherical cloud of comets and asteroids hypothetical (not directly observed) located on the edge of the solar system, almost a year sunshine, and about a quarter of the distance to Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to our solar system.

The comet has been named as S1 2012 and according to preliminary analysis follows an orbit similar to that of the Great Comet of 1680, considered one of the greatest spectacles in the sky in history. S1 Astronomers speak of a comet as bright as it could be brighter than a full moon.

As for his arrival, S1 may pass by Earth in January 2014, but as noted by scientists, could not exceed the comet passing near the Sun If successful, this would be a unique spectacle in the sky .
