The faces of literary characters are revealed
The artist and writer of American origin Brian Joseph Davies has created a Tumblr, The Composites, which exposes composites of characters of world Literature created from a police identification software. A facial image is achieved from the collection and processing of more than ten thousand physiognomic details as the shape of the nose, facial structure, the shape of hair, thick lips, facial blemishes or marks …
The Composites , the draft Davies, is stimulating and interesting, the possibilities of forensic software are enormous and thanks to him we can put a face to Patrick Bateman of American Psycho, as Humbert Humbert in Lolita, the immortal Emma imagined by Gustave Flaubert Bovery , the detective Sam Spade created by Dashiell Hammett or himself Count Dracula of Bram Stoker.
See the faces of these popular literary characters can be a little strange to us we probably imagined at some point and certainly the results of work of Brian Joseph Davies differ from the images we had in mind. I recognize that some of them seem very accurate and close to the ideas that were around in my head.
Davis’s own words the inspiration for this project came to him reading a novel by James Ellroy. The artist was surprised to have been the first to think of doing such work:
