Here’s how small businesses can reduce ransomware concerns!

Every small business has IT assets that can be hacked and misused. Hackers often use a wide range of techniques for the same, including ransomware. So, what exactly is ransomware? In simple words, ransomware is a type of malware that is used to encrypt networks, devices, systems and files. The hacker will then demand a ransom, against which they may promise a decryption key. Today, ransomware remains a serious online vulnerability for businesses, and small businesses are often attacked more because they don’t take enough steps for malware prevention. In this post, we are sharing more on how your company can reduce ransomware concerns.

Don’t pay the ransom

If you believe that your business has been attacked by ransomware, do not pay the amount. There is no assurance that paying the money will give you access to the files. Inform the IT teams and cybersecurity experts, so that appropriate measures can be taken.

Develop the culture of backups

When you have backup of everything, you can easily restore your files that have been encrypted. This is the precise reason why your cybersecurity plans should include a systematic way of taking backups.

 Use antimalware software

Consider using antimalware, anti-ransomware, and antivirus solutions. There are quite a few options in the market, and some are designed for small businesses in particular. The right software will send alerts and thaw unexpected attempts to bypass existing security measures.

Train your employees

Unfortunately, employees are often responsible for malware and ransomware attacks. Untrained employees may end up downloading and running files, which contain ransomware, and once the malware is installed, there isn’t much to do but damage control. Makes sure that your employees know what malware and ransomware attacks are all about and how they can prevent the same.

Update all software programs

Make sure that you update all software, firmware, and other programs to the latest version. There is a reason why software manufacturers offer these updates. Each update may fix some of the existing vulnerabilities that could be otherwise exploited by hackers.

Use Firewall and network segmentation

Both Firewalls and network segmentation are powerful ways to block access to devices, files, and networks. In case of network segmentation, any compromise or security issue with one of the subnetworks wouldn’t affect the rest.
