How to Troubleshoot Not Showing Sign-in Options On Login Screen of Windows 10?

You can sign in to your computers Window 10 login screen with several options like –

  • Face
  • Fingerprint
  • Password
  • PIN
  • Picture password
  • More

Generally, the Sign-in options icon will appear on the login screen of Windows. This makes it easy for users to switch between different sign-in options. Suddenly, you find that the Sign-in options button is not appearing on the login screen. The missing sign-in options button causes an inconvenience to users.

Effective ways to troubleshoot the missing sign in options button

Disable

In case you use Microsoft accounts for Windows 10 sign in then by default only the Windows Hello sign is allowed. Therefore, you will not see the Password sign-in option on the login screen. You have set only Window Hello to sign in option [face, finger, or PIN], so the Sign in options icon will not flash on the login screen. You will need to disable the ‘Require Windows Hello sign-in Microsoft accounts’ to set back the sign-in options button on the login screen.

  • Settings > Accounts > Sign in options > turn the Off button

Change

Certain services are liable for missing the sign-in option button on the login screen. To fix this issue –

  • Press the Windows key and R, together to open the dialogue box ‘Run’. In the box type services.msc and press Enter key to open Services app in Windows 10.
  • In Services app find Credential Manager. Double-click on it to open the properties dialog box.
  • Change Startup type – Automatic. Click Apply. [if this service shows stopped then click on Start and OK.
  • Locate ‘Windows Biometric Service’. Double click and open the properties dialog box.
  • Change Startup type – Automatic. Click Apply. [if this service shows stopped then click on Start and OK.
  • Restart Windows 10. Check if the sign-in options button appears on the login screen.

Check

Corruption of the user profile due to damaged update may also be the probable reason sign-in options on Windows 10 login screen have gone missing. To fix this –

  • Type cmd in the search box. In the search result, you’ll see the the Command Prompt app. Right-click and choose ‘Run’ as administrator. Command Prompt will be opened as administrator.
  • Type sfc/scannow in Command Prompt window and press the Enter key.
  • The scanning process will take some time. If the corrupt file is detected the SFC tool repairs it automatically.

In case, there is no corrupt file detected or SFC is unable to fix the issue then create a new administrator account for your Windows 10. Login with a new administrator account and see if sign-in options reappeared on your login screen.

Undoubtedly, there are several reasons why Windows 10 login screen is unable to show the sign-in options button. The issue can start suddenly as some users experience it after Windows 10 updates. It is assumed that a bug during Windows 10 update is responsible. For this, you will have to wait for the following update or you can reinstall Windows 10 to regain the sign-in options.
